The nook

1035 University Ave #105, Honolulu, HI 96826

The Nook is a small hole in the wall restaurant that is located in the parking lot behind “A Place to Eat” on University Avenue. The Nook was originally for breakfast and brunch, but now added a dinner option as well. For their breakfast menu, they have added a cocktail menu for those who enjoy alcohol. The Nook is quite busy, but if you want to miss the crowd get there as early as possible. Even though with the crowd, the staff is very kind, and does their best to make sure all of the customers are enjoying their food and drinks. The café has the option to either sit inside or outside on their patio. The majority of the café ingredients are local and organic as well. The last few times that my friends and I have gone we were seated outside, and it was great. The waitress was quick to seat us, and was very patient with our questions about the food. The Nook also has different specials for their brunch and dinner hours for both drinks and food. The waitress made sure that we if had any questions to answer them to best of her ability, and she was very helpful. For dinner I had order their Duck Confit Sliders, and it was delicious. The sliders are also served with a side of polenta fries and lemon aioli. The Nook pushes their limits on the flavors, and it pays off. The duck was moist and was a good balance of seasoning. The contrast between the salt and sweet with the cranberry preserves had an interesting but good flavor to the sliders. I’ve personally never had polenta before, but the fries were good. The fries were evenly fried and the flavors with the lemon aioli were fulfilling. The lemon aioli was not sour, but had more of a hint of sour. After eating dinner, my friends and I decided to look at their dessert. The different options include mochi churros, matcha cake, and a few others. We decided on the mochi churros and it came with of Mexican hot chocolate. The order came with 2 long pieces of mochi churros, and a small cup of the hot chocolate. The mochi churros were chewy and covered in cinnamon and sugar. My friends and I were not disappointed, and quickly ate them up. With the hot chocolate we used it to dip the mochi churros in and then each took a sip from it. The hot chocolate had a hint of cinnamon and other spices in it. After drinking the hot chocolate there was a hint of heat to it, but not spicy enough for those that do not like spicy flavors. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience and are planning our next dinner here at The Nook.
