Pint & Jigger was founded by partners Dave Newman and Jonathan Schwalbenitz, who were both actively engaged with the bar scene. They wanted to create a bar/gastropub that had craft beers available in Hawaii. Their drink menu always has 21 beers on tap with a rotation of new beers included every week. The atmosphere and ambiance is very chill and good for going there with coworkers, friends, or any time you want to relax with some good beers and food. Pint & Jigger can be described with a traditional and modern fusion of English traditions with an addition of Pacific aspects.
When you first enter the establishment there is a bit of confusion entering. The doors are big with no windows, which you could mistake for another store. After you enter you see big picnic tables with signs and pictures. As you turn left, you enter into the main bar area. There are tables with booth seating and open area tables in the center with the bar behind the tables. There are also more tables to the side of the bar and a shuffleboard at the far back of the building.
The lighting in Pint & Jigger is dim, but you can still see everything around you. There are two big screen tvs on either side of the bar as well as one near the picnic tables near the entrance. There are tshirts with Pint & Jigger logos stuck to the brick walls as well as signs that show that there is merchandise for sale.
The bar where all of the taps are located has a chalkboard wall on the top with all of the beers names, alcohol level, and prices listed. All of the beers listed are a part of their "Lucky 21" beers on tap. They also have a list of cocktails, whiskeys, and other alcoholic drinks listed in a separate menu. Their drink menu is designed so that there are options, but not too many that would overwhelm you.
Unfortunately, the bar does not offer flights of beers so that you can try different ones with a lower price point. They do offer small tasters of beers that you would like to try before you purchase a full order of any beers. Most of them are free to taste except of the beers with a high price point, which they offer the taster for $1. The tasters come in a 1 oz. glass and you can taste up to 3 per person.
I ordered the Bavilk Pilsner, which is a German beer. The beer was on the lighter side of beers with hardly any happiness. The ABV [alcohol by volume] was a 5.20%, which is average for a beer. The color of the beer was a straw gold and it had a light refreshing taste. I also tried the Hoegaarden beer, which was a bit hoppier with a light green yellow color, and the Erdinger Hefe [Hefeweizen], which is one of my favorites. The Hefeweizen is a full bodied beer with also a straw gold color. The beer sometimes has a smoky taste, which comes from the barrels they are stored and made in.
If you have any questions feel free to ask any of the servers and bartenders. They are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all of the beers and the origins as well as telling the difference between a lot of the beers only by the smell and look of it. Our server surprised us by differentiating my taster beers only by the smell and appearance when one of the other servers came by to deliver my tasters and I momentarily forgot which ones were which.
Overall, the beers and drinks are excellent and the atmosphere is very easy going and welcoming. I love going here and will be visiting here often with friends, family, or whoever is willing to go!
