Located in the rapidly developing Kakaako, Arvo Café is hidden within Paiko shop. This shop is an Australian creation being run by a family with the name Arvo meaning “afternoon” in Australia. This floral shop that is conjoined adds a beautiful atmosphere for one to sit down and enjoy some coffee and food. The first thing that I noticed was the exterior which was bordered with a few tables for people to enjoy the day. Inside I was puzzled as to whether this was a coffee shop or a boutique and it is actually split into two halves. There is an earthy feel to the venue as there are assorted plants all around as well as wood tables and countertops and a very simplistic design. Here on the café side, they serve coffee brews but have quite a selection for food as well. Prices are relatively inexpensive with no item exceeding $10. I was particularly interested in the Macha Chia Cup that reminded me of an acai bowl. It was packed with fruits and a light macha whipped cream topping although the chia berries at the bottom were not as delightful as acai. The chia seeds did seem a bit excessive in amount at the bottom although if mixed evenly together with the rest, may have blended well. There were many people getting the toasts that are served there loaded with either fruit, vegetables, or even salmon as toppings served on a nice block of wood. It would have paired nicely with a latte or espresso. Next time I would put that on my must try list. While waiting for the food and enjoying the atmosphere, I was able to scan the area and observe what appeared to be a workshop going on about potting plants. On the other side of the shop was the boutique with many plants on the shelves and a do it yourself section where people can go and make their own floral arrangement for a set fee. This is definitely an Instagram worthy place to visit. Arvo was a very busy place to be with a good amount of tourists mixed with the locals. I would highly recommend everyone to visit this place before Kakaako becomes swept up in all of the changes in renovation and the inevitable traffic that comes with it. Arvo Café is a new hip place with quality food and drinks and the ideal place to try out with friends.
